I used alt ctl delete last night and task manager came up so many times and flashing, and now I can't get rid of it, can't close down the lappy and let it run out of battery but it is still there, Do I have a virus or can I do something about it as reparis are quite expensive here. Many thanks.

Can you use task manager to end the task manager process (it's listed as tskmgr)
Is there the usual 'X' to close the window at the top right? If not, you've simply entered the 'small footprint mode' by mistake. Double-click on the border of the window to get back to 'normal footprint mode', complete with the 'X'.

Nothing happens. It shows that I am the user (many times) but cannot "end progress" as it is faint and not clickable. The tskmgr application flashes in the middle oif the screen and won't go. (am using desktop at the mo)
Save any work, and then press the power button until the machine switches itself off.

If you press to get Task Manager started and hold down .. or press repeatedly .. you get loads of them running .. several will slow system to a crawl.
End them one by one in Task Manager .. or force shutdown : )
