I am in an area where you cannot receive Freeview and was wondering -

1.If the system is being uprated so that everyone can receive it?

2.How quickly the system is being upgraded?

Digital transmitter signals (Freeview) are about 1 tenth the strength of the existing analogue signals and as the analogue signals are phased out from about 2008 the digital signals strength will be increased greatly.

At the moment the signal strength of the digital cannot be increased as it will cause interference to the existing analogue signals.

isnt it 2008 when tv signals will be digital only ?
..I like in the far north west of wales...yes, well  someone has to,  when I rang up the helpline they told me that my postcode area was not compatible, however, my neighbour had a digi box and had good reception and picture quality, so I went ahead and bought one...ok so I have to position it on a shelf high above the tv and jiggle it about until it picks up a signal, but I have no complaints, some days I have no signal (and for some reason this happens when it's very very sunny) .the general belief is that if you can get ch5 then 9/10 times you will be able to recieve digital (although I couldnt get ch5 before) .. someone told me that because they are so cheap at the moment then you might as well get one anyway because when they finally switch off analouge they will shoot up in price...

MOOG - Interesting Site - I had no idea they did that .

LPAQOWNER - If thats the case then the current situation will be until 2008 , assuming that it is isnt delayed!

ERMINTRUDE35 - I've had a similar response to a query on DAB Radio insofar as they had to have a play before they got a signal. Interesting - it may be worth getting a Box and having a punt!
