Trying to make back-up for HP laptop.

I have been trying to make a back up for my Windows 7 HP laptop but the disc sticks at 75%. Does anyone know why this is happening?

What are you using to make the backup?

What software, and what are you backing up to (DVD, external hard drive etc)?

How long to you actually leave it because some of the backup programs can take a couple of hours.

Thanks for your reply. I made a back up when the laptop was new but one of the DVDs is corrupt. I am trying to make a new back up using DVDs but the disc is ejected when it reaches 75% burn. This takes up to 6 hours. The only option is to cancel.
