Touch screen phones, is Iphone the best?

I am planning on getting someone an iphone for a present but I'm just wondering are they the best touchscreen phone out there or is there a better one now available. I would always recommend to people to get an mp3 player rather than an ipod because the mp3 players are handier to use but I'm not too sore when it comes to phones. Does anyone have any advice before I buy?

I have a Sony Ericson xperia X10, better than Iphone, IMHO.

Cool, is it the same screen size ratter? I've had a SonyEricsson w880 and now have a w995 so if it was for me I'd probably stick to SonyEricsson but not sure what to do.

I agree with ginge, look at some reviews. most individuals have not tried all of the available smartphones to be able to speak at length about their pluses and minuses

I've an HTC (work mobile) I hate it, it does everything except make the tea, and I CANT use it!!!

Thanks cazzz, xperia seems to be the best according to that list and I'm thinking maybe go with my gut feeling and try to explain myself afterward. Does anyone else have any advice?
