Dell Laptop keeps shutting down and goes into repair

My dell laptop keeps shutting down by its self and then when I restart it it goes into repair mode but then just keeps shutting its self down again,
I sometimes also get a blue screen come up sometimes saying that my laptop as had to shut its self down to stop my laptop getting damaged.

Is there anything I can do to fix this and what is it thats wrong.

How old and what model?
Could it be blocked with dust maybe and getting too hot? This could cause shutdown to protect processor.

its a year old and a dell inspiron 1545

get a hoover with just the hose end and put it by the laptop air vents let it suck out all the dust n debris etc with the laptop switched off and the battery removed first.
then reinsert battery and reboot
