I've lost Norton Security 2011 off 1 PC

I purchased Norton Internet Security 2011 (3 PC version). I'be been using Norton for several years and like it. I have put it on my laptop abd also my partners. Today, her laptop came up with a "Norton window" inviting her to get the latest Norton version Free of Charge, so she saw no reason not to click OK, since it had the Norton logo etc. Since then her PC has played up, been really slow and appears to have lost Norton completely, so seems to now have no protection. Mine is still fine. I have clicked on the desk top icon and selected properties, which shows the previous expired Norton info. I am certain that after installing the 2011 disc and loading it onto her PC, when this desk top icon was clicked, it brought up the usual Nortin window - Scan option etc. Can anyone help? Where has Norton 2011 gone? Has my partner been duped and clicked on a Norton Update imposter? Having used up two of the three installs from the disc, I presume I could try installing again, but ideally I wanted to use that on a third PC. Thanks to all who respond

This may be a malware / spyware product pretending to be Norton.

If you can still get to the internet then download malwarebytes free, install it, update it, then run it with a full deep scan. That may get rid of it.

Get it from here

http://www.malwarebytes.org/
If you loaded Norton from a disc, uninstall it from her laptop and re-install it.
If your partner has installed malware that's preventing Norton from running, then simply re-installing Norton will not solve the problem. Do as VHG says, download and install malwarebytes anti-malware and do a full scan.
And clean up PC at same time .. Temp Files .. cookies, etc.
Make sure Norton settings are correct and set to remove cookies, etc.
As VHG says then uninstall Norton and use something else. The only two pieces of software I use are avast! (free version) and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) that VHG says to use and my firewall is our wireless router.

Before you do a deep scan with MBAM boot into safe mode (reboot, hold down F8 to get Windows boot menu) and then do a deep scan.
