Hi, Just a small point I know, but I am very curious. I am on WiFi in a village and very often cannot get internet, sometimes all day. YET I stil get messages from Windows or from Antivirus saying updates are now ready but the server is down. If the server is down , how can I get these messages does it mean something can always find a way into your computer.??? Thanks

No basically.

your computer would have been made aware that the updates for windows are available last time it was connected to the internet, now it's just telling you they are still available but it can't get them (obviously the server is not down. just you are not connected to the internet)

The AV is a little different, most AV software updates at least once a day and it will attempt to retrieve this update regardless of if the computer is connected to the internet. if your not connected then some AV software will keep quiet and just keep trying, some may give you an error (sounds like yours i s the latter!)
