easier to find a company to do it for you, shop around as there are plenty to choose from..i have found one in MK

just google 8mm to DVD

i am just about to do it with some old films of my inlaws..there are also companys on e bay offering this
service.
It is possible to do it yourself as i seem to remember seeing a small unit with a screen you set up in front of the cine projector. As mentioned, easier and cheaper to get a pro to do it.

Thankyou for trying to help. I am in N. Ireland and not yet able to find a company over here to do it. May have to send them to mainland but client would probably not be agreeable as he would be afraid of losing some or of having them damaged. I think he wanted to do it himself with my help but I can't do it. I will keep looking for someone here.
i think the cost of buying the equipment & software far outway paying someone to do it , i have just been quoted 49.50 for approx 500' of film on 4 spools.
Its not really going to get damaged as they just run it through a fairly standard projector .
Have a look at this too, may be of some help to you.

Thanks Steve but you forgot to send the link.
Are you near Middletown, Co Armagh? I've noticed this service being advertised on premises in the centre of the village on the left, heading south.
