newsletter subscribing emails

I have just received 6 emails, all from different companies, thanking for registering with them. I have NOT subscribed or registered with any of them. Could this be someone doing it in my name?

ok thanks. Anything I can do? Is it likely to be more than just subscribing to newsletters in my name?

Are you actually registered though?

The initial email usually contains a link, which you would have to click to prove it was you who made the request.

None of them have had links. All have just been thanks for registering & one said thanks for entering competition. I did not register with the sites or enter the comp.

What would someone gain from registering my email address?

sorry, that should say 'none of them had links to confirm registration or subscription'

Hmmm - they're obviously not reputable companies then.

Seems someone just wants to cause you hassle.

thanks for advice. doubt there is much I can do about it now. will just have to keep an eye on my emails to see if i get any more. can't really see why someone would want to use my email address, or for what reason?!
