Does anyone know of a website where I could send a picture of a fruit and a leaf from a tree, which I wish to identify.

I don't know about a website, but you might try getting in touch with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and see if they can help. If you happen to be in the Wisley area, calling in and asking the people in the plant shop is an option as well.

Why not upload the pics to a web gallery like 'yahoo' and then invite people from say, 'Home and Garden' here to view and reply.it worked for me a while back to identify a shrub.

Stefos has correctly pointed out that you can post such questions, with links to pictures, right here on AB. Either 'Home & Garden' or 'Animals and Nature' might be suitable categories.
However, web gallery sites, such as Yahoo, Webshots, Picasaweb, Flickr and Snapfish all require that you go through a registration process, which is a bit of a pain if you only want to put one or two pictures online. The service that is most commonly used by ABers is Tinypic. This enables you to put individual pictures online, with just a few clicks (and no registration process). You can copy and paste the link into your question here on AB:

Alternatively, you might find your answer by looking at this site:

If you are still struggling why not take a sample to your local garden centre? they should have some knowlegable staff or be able to advise further.

Thank you Chris for your answer. This really helped me and I am pleased to say that I have managed to post a picture along with my question on AB via the tinypics website. A great site, will definitely use it again. Thanks again for the tip.
