Have been using Norton anti virus for several years now, found to be excellent, but make sure to update daily if possible(should be automatic when online)
I've only just bought my pc & have 60 days Norton anti-virus free trial, so what do you mean update daily please Bun?
You need to do the live update reguarly as there are new viruses appearing all the time. If it wasn't for norton my pc would be ********! It's well worth paying for.
nortons is good, but apparently Mcafee anti virus is supposed to be better. you can find comparisons on a search engine to see which one is better
My vote would go to McAfee as well
both good products but if you dont want to fork out then avg anti virus is excellent. will protect just as much as the others without the cost. also worth lookig at getting a product called zone alarms - lets you know when stuff is trying to access your pc or the internet. bit fiddly at first but once you realise what programs are accessing constantly and you need them to work you can then filter out the messages. anti virus will not keep us safe indefinitely !
I feel Mr Bun that you are on Bt and you feel that it is the be all and end all of providers, well try Wanadoo, really knocks your poor old thing for six. By the way you still have not replied to my problem
I used Norton for about three years and it was excellent. I now use AVG from Grisoft and find it just as good....and it's free. You can find it here:
GRISOFT AVG

Zone Alarm Firewall is also another excellent product and well worth getting. Again there is a free version available

ZONE ALARM

I've downloaded Zone Alarm, but now it won't let me register onto AB when it is running (which rather seems to defeat the object). Also, it has turned off the cookie that automatically registers you to AB, that came about with the upgrade a few weeks ago. Anyone tell me how to get round this?
I've just found the same problem, sddsddean. It seems you have to go into Privacy in the settings and switch off the Cookie control, otherwise it prevents AB from setting the cookie it needs to register you.
So come on then Bun, what do you mean by update daily - please?
Norton is ok until it goes wrong then it can completely mess up your PC. Renewing your subscription is not very intuitive at all and when I had to reinstall windows a few months back I never got Norton working again - their support is terrible. Now using AVG - it detected and removed a variant of a virus not even recognised by Norton at the time ...and its free.
I like Norton although I'm slightly worried to read that it misses something that another prog got. Maybe Norton were slower to react to the bug? As far as "update daily" goes, any virus checker has a list of known viruses that it checks for on your system. New viruses come out all the time so you have to download a new list of them as often as poss to make sure that you're protected against the latest viruses. Also, I've read that Zonealarm (which I found incredibly easy to use) can corrupt some downloads. This info was bundled with a DC++ client I use.
i also use grisoft av and find it excellent. i used to use zone alarm but after an update it clashed with bit torrent and stopped dl's - i now use sygate firweall and all is fine again !!!!!
