I am trying to copy some photos that I downloaded from my digital camera on to a cd from my computer. However, I cannot write them to the CD. Everything seems fine with the process then the cd is completed and blank or I get an erroe message saying there was a error in the writing process. What can it be?

Also, I have copied the images to a a floppy disk (remember them?!) so it is not an issue with the files. I have just tried writing some word files to the cd and they are not working either. How do I troubleshoot the cd writer?
Are you actually writing the pictures? (If you are just selecting and dragging the pictures they are first copied to an area ready to copy and then you have to choose - copy to CD from whatever menu appears)

OR are you closing / finishing the disc?

I assume you do have a writable CD drive?
Have you tried .... select pictures you want to copy - right click .... then SEND ... to CD You should then get a message sayinjg you have pictures ready to copy to CD. Follow instructions until another window opens - from FILE menu select Copy to CD. They should then go.

Personally I downloaded Picassa 2 from Google (free) and use the Make a Gift CD option - pretty painless just read the little pop up boxes to add pictures from more than one place. All straightforward.

thanks - yes I'd tried all that. I decided in the edn to give the cd drive a bit of a clean with an cd cloth and blew gently on the laser thing. worked a treat and got the images wrote onto the cd no problems after that. technology eh?
Of course there was always that way of sorting it out!! :)

Someone suggested on here that the liquid used to clean cassette tape heads wiped carefully over the lens can work - and it did for me on several dodgy CD players.
