I have Outlook Express and have set my Tiscali address as my address, but when I send mail, Outlook fails to send it for some reason. Can anyone tell me how I can correct this? Also can U put my yahoo address on Outlook or can it only be servers like Tiscali? Many thanks.

Are the server addresses correct in the account settings? If you open up the mail account properties and make sure that the incoming (POP3) server is set to pop.tiscali.co.uk and the outgoing (SMTP) server is entered as smtp.tiscali.co.uk. Other than that, make sure your username and password are entered correctly.
PS, you can't use most webmail services like Yahoo or Hotmail through Outlook Express or similar email clients. There are some exceptions such as Gmail (or Google Mail) for example.

How do I find the account settings in the mail account properties?
In Outlook Experss, click Tools then Accounts. Select your mail account (choose the Mail tab to narrow it down if there's lots showing) then click the Properties button. On the Servers tab, enter the server addresses that I wrote in the first post into the appropriate boxes. Probably best to re-enter your username and password on this page also to make sure it's right.

Good luck, and post back if it doesn't work!

Many thanks :)

In the General tab do I need to put my tiscali e-mail address, or should I just leave it? It says pop.freeserve.com at the moment? But I'm not with freeserve

Question Author

It keeps reverting back to popfreeserve.com as my default! :(

Also says Wanadoo which I'm not with! The last owner was with wanadoo! How do I change this to my tiscali address please?

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'Louise [email protected]'. Subject 'Test', Account: 'pop.freeserve.com', Server: 'smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '501 <Louise [email protected]>: "@" or "." expected after "Louise"', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 501, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Forgot to say that the message above is what I keep getting when trying to send.
Hi Aura, It looks like you're nearly there.

All the info on the "General" tab is just for reference only, it's not actually used to send any mail. Where it says pop.freeserve.com under Mail Account, just rename it to Tiscali.

If you're using dial-up internet access, on the Connection tab make sure that the correct Tiscali connection is selected to connect through. If you're on broadband, it's most likely that nothing should be selected on this tab.

It looks like your servers are specified right. Make sure your username is the same as your full Tiscali email address. The email address you are trying to send a message to isn't right though. There is never a space in an email address so you'll need to check the address with the recipient.

Let us know how you get on.
