My dab radio uses a SD card which has enough memory for 4 hours use. But technically if I asked it to split the time between programmes it couldn't. I can't even rewind or fast forward, all it does is recored one block of time and that's it.

Why can't they use the technology available to do something videos were able to do 30 years ago?

It is your DAB radio that has the limitation not the SD card (nor any other type of flash memory card).

If flash memory were limited in this way there would be no MP3 players with the ability to FF and REW.
