Why is the signal poor? Distance from router?

I always stay in the lower floor and the room isn't far from the office so i'm not sure why the connection is so slow

If you have a good connection with the router there is nothing you can do - the hotel's wifi is slow or poorly positioned or needs updating, all beyond your control.

Thanks HC, hopefully they have gotten around the updating it.
Have you considered alternatives?
If you have a 3G or 4G smartphone you might be able to turn it into a wifi hotspot, meaning your laptop connects wirelessly to your phone and uses your phone's data allowance.

If not, a 3G or 4G pay as you go mobile dongle may be the solution.

I have an iphone 5S, I will certainly look in to that.
the smartphone option is effective - but only where you have a "xG" signal. if all the phone is receiving is GPRS, it'll take forever.
It's easy :)

I use my BlackBerry as a wifi hotspot a lot to connect both my tablet and my laptop to the internet when I'm out and about
