The reason I'm asking is that we were on BT Infinity and were regularly exceeding 40 GB, and having to pay extra. We don't download films, music, games etc. I don't know how we are using so much.
Oh Yes - in spades it does - if you're not on an unlimited deal for data then be quite careful ...
On Demand uses around 1GB to 1.5 GB per hour - up to 2.5GB per hour if you watch in HD ....

We have just changed to unlimited. I just don't know how we managed to get over the 40 GB limit every month.
Oh I didn't know that
We use it all the time

Neither did I, Ric.
ANYTHING in the house connected to your broadband via your router counts towards your download amount.

This can be computers and laptops, tablets, smartphones, smart TVs, Sky on demand and other "catch up services".

But by far the biggest files you will download is any sort of video (movies, TV shows, YouTube, Netflix etc etc.)

You could spend HOURS downloading text (simple web sites) and it would be hardly any data.

But one minute of video could be as much data as an hour looking at simple text based web sites (this is just a rough example, I have not actually measured it).
Note before you download anything on Sky on demand you can press the "I" button and it tells you how big the file is.

A 1 hour TV show could be about 1 Gigabyte.

Note "HD" TV shows and films are larger than "normal" TV shows and films

Thank you VHG. I had no idea. So when I'm on AB and listening to music on Yutube, that's eating into the download limit?
Yes, Tilly. Reading your emails, AB, Facebook, Twitter, local news - everything you look at on the internet counts as data downloads.
