INTERNET CONNECTION

A laptop (HP G 61--110SA) in my lounge says "connected to the internet" but the user cannot actually get ON to the internet...Meanwhile the wife can get on whilst in the same room at the same time with no problems....Occasionally the user gets on for 5-10 minutes then loses connection Any ideas? I sometimes get that. I switch off and unplug the router (the wireless box connected to the telephone socket), wait 10 minutes, then switch it back on again. Sorts it out for me. I read somewhere that "always on" routers do actually need to be switched off and on again weekly to keep them in good shape.
