Tabs in Explorer

I'm currently finding that if I open a second tab in IE and then go to a new page, it doesn't load it on that tab, but replaces the page on the FIRST tab - usually a page I wanted to keep there. It's very irritating. Does anyone know why it happens and how I can stop it? I can sometimes get around it by opening a THIRD tab, but I'd rather it just didn't happen anyway. Thanks.

Also, I've noticed that when I get the page showing the results of a google search and I look at one of the websites, when I back-page to the results page, it doesn't bring it up but returns me to the page I had up BEFORE doing the google search. WHY?! To check more of the search results, I have to re-perform the search. Earlier, when I re-loaded the results page this way, it didn't do it on that tab, but opened a whole new window in front of the original one.

None of these things used to happen. Are they stupid annoying new features that have been added to try to help us by people who just want to tamper with things, or am I doing something wrong? I kind of hope it's the latter so I can solve it (with some nice ABers help of course).

Sorry, moan over.

IE8 by any chance? I hope not 9.

Tools/Internet Options/Tabs/ Settings

'always switch to new tabs' check.
at bottom .. 'a new tab in the current window'
'when a new tab opened .. your first home page'

Check those first.
