running, Windows defender, and the security one we installed, the info says that running two spyware applications can make computer to run slow. Not sure how to turn off Windows defender. The security application we installed is good, so asume don't need two. Still have problems with webmail, half the screen when you send e mail says not sent, but it does go, IE8, is that compatible with Windows 7, and did install firefox, then decided for the sake of sanity, untill can figure these others problems not to change browser, so uninstalled it. This might be a little early, but any help gratefully received.

There should be a Windows Defender icon in the Windows Control Panel.

You can turn it off from there.

You may be able to uninstall it from there as well.

thank you, there seems to be any number of problems at the minute, will look for that icon.
I'd uninstall Defender from Add/Remove.
Install Malwarebytes if not already in use.
What 'is' the other one? Adaware?

Albags its not Norton, may seem odd, but i can't say, not dodgy? its fully secure, has all the requiste protection, was recommended, but i think i downloaded Windows Defender, when i didn't need to. These Windows pop up boxes sometimes confuse, when it says recommended to download, i guess im not the brightest kid in the class with computers, can work around them fairly well, but there are loads of these recommended to...... did find an icon for Widows defender, not on desktop, but in programmes, i think, but there doesn't seem a way to shut it off. You click on it, and it just open out the application,
As to digital tv, that's has lost three channels, i am beginning to think something very weird is going on.
em...There was not any need for you to uninstall Firefox. It's just a matter of what you programme as your default browser. I have three browsers (I.E.; Opera and Firefox.) I get-on really well with FF so that is listed as my default. However when I wish to check the weather for my area I use I.E.and just cancel-out the box which asks if I want I,E. as my default browser.

Incidentally, I don't know if you are paying for your computer's security programme. I am using MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) which is a free download and I take the view that Microsoft should know how to protect Windows which is installed in the majority of computers.

I use Avast Free Antivirus which will allow you to run Windows Defender in the background as a backup antivirus. Quite a few of the other turn it off . IE8 is the default browser for Windows 7 and is ok. You should have MalwareBytes installed as a malware removal tool but it doesn't monitor your computer unless you use the paid version. You should also install Revo Uninstaller free to remove your programs it is the best tool for this job.If you haven't installed SP1 then you should run a repair on your updates and then install it as it will help your security issues

I think going on how long i looked through the various applications, programmes, how to do stuff yesterday, until my eyes were dropping out, i need to get someone here or on the phone. I can follow instructions, but so much is confusing. I got the security protection, it wasn't expensive, on the recommendation of a friend, who said its the best he'd used. I had Norton before that. I did look for the Icon Windows Defender in Uninstall Programmes but there is a shedload of Windows applications, not one actually says Windows Defender, it may be that its tied into something else, i must say you are all very helpul, i need to go back to learn more of whats on here, its just getting the time, and the head around some of it.
