If it sounds daunting to you, I wouldn't advise you do it. What benefits do you believe you will get from it?

to clear off what is being described as bloatware, sounds like it will make the phone faster when its gone, also enabling me to get my emails on the move without paying for orange's mobile mail. ive gleaned this from reading various reviews of my phone and also forums on the subject.
I personally wouldn't risk it. If you don't know what you are doing after it has been rooted, you could stop your phone from working and naturally, you would have no guarantee on the phone.

However, it is up to you. Your best bet would be to ask at the unlocking shop.
I have been using custom software on a V3 for years.
Best is to get advice from a decent manufacturer-specific forum.
Some OS for phones is slimmed down and pretty good, as well as quick.
Depends on the phone youre rooting

benefits =get rid of all the crap apps that come installed and replace with alternatives
minus= possible bricking

you can get plent of apps tha will let you do a total backup and restore phone to original

Iphones one app solution to root
androids usually need two apps to root

theres loads of sites on rooting, and loads of vids on youtube

its not daunting its easy to do but there is always the element of risk
