I know AVG takes 20 minutes. So I'd guess McAfee would be similar

My AVG does an automatic scan everyday, but I wanted to double check after my card details were "obtained" for misuse. Cheers, Sandy.

Still going.... still 0% complete.

Perhaps I'm trying to do too many things at once: Run full scan; update and install adobe; chat on AB.... lol
Should do one thing at a time.

Cheers. x
You have clicked the 'Start scan now' button?
Even I know that 0% complete after 10 minutes is far too slow.
Hello NoMercy !
Having McAfee and AVG running together on your PC will cause conflict as they are both Anti Virus programmes. Chuckfickens and other more Computer literate users will be able to advise you better than me, but I seem to remember other similar queries on here regarding this.
If I were you I would uninstall AVG and just use the McAfee until it's time to renew.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials which is very good and available free.
Comodo is another Free one which Chuckfickens recommended and is very good also.

I must have done that already. It says "scanning your computer for issues - web threats scan - 0% complete".... and then the whirly thing is going round and round.
Go into Programmes NoMercy and uninstall AVG whilst McAfee is scanning as this might help speed things up.
if it's a fully paid for version of mcafee then as redman says un-install AVG. if it's a free trial of mcafee then i'd un-install mcafee and stick with AVG.

But either way stop the scan, wait for your updates to finish and everything to finish installing and then do a restart before removing either of them.
Sorry redman I disagree, don't uninstall anything while the scan is running and certainly not while updates are running.

Stop the scan let everything else finish, remove one or the other of the AV programs and once it's all sorted out start a scan with whichever one you choose.
You carry on Chuck as you know what you are doing better than myself.
When I butted in on the thread was not sure if you were around or not so that you could help NoMercy. ;-)
Chuck.. you still there? my Avira keeps turning off, and telling me to update it (it didn't used to). I go to the site and update it (about twice a week) then it's okay again. is it worth sticking with, or would you recommend another one?
if it's causing problems then probably best to change to something else. It pains me slightly to say it, but Microsoft seem to be getting it right these days with a few things and their AV is one of them, it actually scores very highly in all the industry tests.

thanks Chuck, I'll tinker with it later today x

Cheers, guys. It's not a paid for version of McAfee and the AVG has always worked nicely for me, so I think I'll stick with that one.
