Frozen ipod touch

Putting some music on my ipod touch on Friday i was offered the chance to upgrade the software on t he actual ipod. clicked yes and after some time a message came up saying it couldn't update it. Was left with the image of the usb cable and the itunes shortcut on the ipod. Tried to restore it, no luck, have tried different usb ports and cables, and another computer - still wont restore. Have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it to no avail. Has anyone got any ideas what else I can do now? Thanks

I have tried all the options listed, apart from going into my local Apple store. Unless I can find another solution that is what I shall have to do I guess

How old is it?

Mine used to crash all the time. Partner took it back to Argos where they said the would have to send it back. He had a hissy fit and they gave us a new one. Which works fine.
