odd noise coming from laptop..?

hi all,
my acer laptop, 5 months old, has started to make a bit of a noise underneath when its on.
its like a continual purring/rumbling/vibration noise, faint, but annoying,
any ideas please? and can i do anything to stop it?

is it the fan cooler.....wot r you resting the lappy on? Have you blocked the air vents?

My Toshiba does that after a few hours......the fan seems to rev up and then settle into a low hum...

ive just felt the bottom of the laptop and no, its not running hot.
it only started this afternoon, it starts for a few minutes then stops, then starts again .. grrrrr .. you feel like giving it a bit of a hefty tap! lol

If it's more of a 'clicking' sound you may have a Dolphin trapped in there...

ive got the laptop on a board with little feet things at the back lifting it slightly ..
