The screen on my laptop is broken, would i be able to connect a normal desktop monitor to it so that i can still use it. If so what settings do i need to change.

Yes all laptops have a VGA socket so you plug in an external monitor.

You need to check the documentation that came with the laptop to see how to set it on the external monitor.

On my IBM laptop I have to hold down the Fn key then press F7.

First time I press F7 it goes goes both laptop screen AND external monitor, next time I press F7 it goes to external screen only, next time it goes back to laptop screen only and so on.

You may see a small image on one of your F keys at the top of the laptop keyboard that looks like a monitor and that will be the one to press the set it to external monitor

Here is a picture of the F7 key with the small image on it.

The image on the left is the external monitor and the one on the right is the laptop.

You have to hold down the Fn key first.

Not sure if all laptops use F7 as I dont have experience of many laptops.

Here is a picture of the Fn key, though it may be in a different pace on your keyboard.
