Keyboards and mice - USB versus PS/2

I just got a new computer and was surprised to see that the keyboard and mouse are PS/2 rather than USB.

I'd assumed that with USB being newer, new computers would tend to use it.

What are the advantaged and disadvantages of the two?

I did read that for a modem, a network cable connection is considered superior to a USB one.

I also realise that during initial setup of a computer, USB devices might not be recognised. I also experienced a problem getting out of sleep mode on Vista with a USB keyboard and mouse, but that was easily solved.

I've also just read that USB mouse use can be slightly more CPU intensive, and was therefore not liked by hardcore gamers. However, that was a forum post from years ago.

if they both work - there isn't a difference - except one uses usb - the other uses ps2 - if it ain't broke ....

presumamly the plugs are at the back - so you can't see them - the advantage is you have two extra usb ports - win win

if it bothers you go buy usb versions - it won't help you type faster or point more betterer
