ActiveX compatibility

I downloaded AVG 8 some time ago,On the first scan there were 25,490 warnings mainly coolwebsearch, when I checked active X compatibility in my Regedit all the items were there plus lots of Bonzibuddy items, I have removed the folder Active X but it keeps coming back, Is all this adware and spyware actually on my pc or are they part of the virus data base? If I leave them there will they do any harm or are they there for a good reason?
At first I thought that AVG was depositing these items, I removed AVG altogether because my pc slowed to walking pace.
I am also running Advanced windows care V2, This my also be a suspect in this case , when I ran it this morning all these items appeared in my regedit, has anyone else had any problems with these two programmes?
