My son has moved into a flat and would like to know how to get his PC going again with AOL. Can anyone give step by step instructions of what to do, as he like me is an idiot. TIA

Yes. He will have to contract AOL to supply broadband to his flat.

If you don't need the internet at your house, you will have to cancel it
