Don't want to get too tekky as to why
but the solution is easy....

first you need both user IDs to have avccounts on both computers - and the bad news is .... they have to be password protected

create a folder (or use one that's already there!!)
right click on it ... go for sharing .....

on the other PC right click on network places ... go for "map network drive"
in the box that opens type
\\pcwitshare\folder (use the names you have on the pc!!)
and bob's your auntie!

Both pc and laptop must have the same group name - the default is MSHome. It does'nt matter what it is provided they are the same.

Have you set your printer to 'share'?

The wireless adaptor on your laptop IS a NIC. So you have nics on all your computers. You need to ensure that both machines are members of the same workgroup. Then you need to enable sharing.
First, on each of the machines, right-click "My computer" and choose properties
On the Computer Name page, check that both have the same name for the workgroup - it doesn't matter what the name is, as long as it's the same on both. If not , click the Change button and type a new name in the "workgroup" section. You will need to restart the machine.

Now that both machines are members of the same workgroup, on the PC, right-click the printer and choose Sharing. Click on "Share this printer" read the bit about drivers and take the appropriate action.

On the laptop, double-click "My network places"
Double-click Entire network
Double-click Microsoft Windows Network
You should now see the name of the workgroup that both machines belong to Double-click it
Locate the shared printer on the PC and double-click
Follow the instructions from there...
That Rojash is GOOD!
Blushing...

first off thanks for all your help but i still can`t get any joy so some more questions 1st does the router make make the pc wireless or do i need a wireless adapter 2nd i don`t know why but it appears that somehow the pc full computer name seems to have changed to exactly the same as my laptop ie your-ed5b****** which i don`t think is right is it? i know i prob seem a bit thick but am not overly computer literare i`m affraid so any help gratefully received

and also when i look under the workgroup on my laptop which is the same as the pc by the way it is completely empty
No the router doesn't make the PC wireless, but do you need it to be? The pc would normally connect to the router using a network cable. The laptop is presumably already wireless.

Having both with the same name would certainly confuse things, why not change both their names to be something meaningful (eg. PC and LAPTOP)? Mine are called Athlon64 and Vista, so that it's easy for me to tell which is which. You can change the names by following my directions for changing the workgroup names - except of course, type the new name in the "Computer Name" section rather than the "Worgroup" section.

Just to be clear, you laptop is actually connecting to the router (via its wireless adaptor) - i.e you can access the internet from both the PC and the laptop?

yes rojash thats right with the internet but what imeant with the names is the laptop is called my laptop and the pc is called our computer but where it says full computer name they are both the same your-ed5b525810
Yes I understood that, and gave you instructions on how to change the computer names. When you network locally between two computers, the NetBios identifies them by their names. Obviously if they both have the same name, that's going to cause a problem, so just follow the instructions and change the computer name of the laptop to "LAPTOP" and that of the pc to "PC".
