Silent Modem

Since a computer crash on Thursday (when Ctrl-Alt-Del failed to respond so I pressed restart on my tower) my modem has not made the expected dial tone. No sound at all, in fact. Obviously I am getting online alright (I'm with Wanadoo.) Explanations or suggestions anybody? Should I be worried?

If you look at your modem's properties (in Control Panel>Printers and other hardware>Phones and modems) there should be a slider for the modem's speaker volume. It could be that this is set to "off".

Just checked - the modem sound is set at ON.

I had exactly the same problem on my PC running ME. Did not get an answer, but the modem does still work, albeit silently
