On the 6/9/2007 I checked the Apple website for the system requirments needed for the new ipod nano they said "Panther" operating systemwas needed. - which i have.

Today 30/9/2007 I purchased a nano from HMV However the requirements have changed to "tiger" the box does say this on the back but i was going of the online information which was not that old,
i checked online an it also has changed but many people have noted that apple changed the system needed. Can I make apple give me the new software for free as the advert was misleading?

Talk to citizens advice bureau re: refund. Doubt they would have to give you updated O/S....but are you nt entitled to download verisons of that anyway??????

Had the same issue this year with Mac systems re: an antivirus product...but Symantec handled it well.

Mac and iPod do not impress me all that much...from the buyer's point of view.
I would say it's unlikey as the information regarding the operating system was on the box and avaiable for you to read and the revised info was on their site. If the information on 6th September was correct, how can it be misleading? .
You'd probably have considerable difficulties using the law to get Apple to help you. The website you viewed was probably based in the USA, so you'd be struggling to prove your case under US law, rather than that of the UK or EU.

However, the editor of a relevant magazine (such as Mac User) might well be interested in hearing about your problems. If you could persuade them to cover the story, they'd challenge Apple on your behalf, which might well result in a positive outcome. (Big companies, such as Apple, aren't bothered about possible legal challenges from individual customers in another country. However, the possibility of bad publicity, throughout that country, might make them take action).

You can contact the editorial team of Mac User by e-mailing them:

if it says what system requirements you need on the box then its really up to you to read them, not what was possibly on a website some time ago.

You could ask for a refund from HMV, you may be lucky to get one.
