Thanks for fast response.
I am using XP and I think it was Word it was created in. I think I downloaded it and then changed it to suit myself. It is so long ago I can't really remember.
I can get page numbers in O.K. but that is not what I want.
I think you'll find this works

Thanks ACtheTROLL but the instructions on that site are a little complicated for me. As you will have gathered I am not very computer literate.
I did a bit of research and I now think my template is based on the Microsoft Office Services Invoice with Hours and Rates. Hope that maybe helps you to help me.

sorry mate .... this is a technical subject - and the solution is technical.

there are two solutions ... a bare text template ... and a list of invoice numbers ... cross each one off as you use them.

The other is to use a macro
because the macro needs to "know" the last number and increment it ... it's not simple ... especially when you further complicate things by numbering by company.

if you search on google you will certainly find a site offering ready made templates for sale.

but unless you can find an enthusiastic amature ... "For Sale" is the key phrase.
Home use software is often free ... unfortunately once it is used in business for profit ... programmers want their cut ....

the alternative is you learn to insert the code you need yourself .... that article is all you need by way of information .... but I showed a long list of others in google

I don't need to number by each company but I think I will maybe try out the macroyou have advised and see how far I get.
Thanks a lot for all your time and patience.
