Macromedia Flash Player - is it safe to install?

Hi, I am attempting to view the availability of holidays dates etc., but the web page has informed me that I need to install a Macromedia Flash Player first before I can do so.
It helpfully has a link to 'Get Flash' (via Adobe Flash Player Download Centre) and it all looks very simple to install .
However, can anyone tell me if it is safe to install Flash? I am concerned as I have read that it can corrupt your computer and even my laptop alerts me that this may not be a good idea...something about ActiveX control and if I trust the website etc., (all very confusing for me!)...am I being a little foolish to be so worried?

Thank you.

Yes, it's fine.
You are not being foolish at all - there is a lot of nasties out there.

Macromedia Flash is safe to install though. Before installing anything, set a new system restore point. You should do this as a matter of course as added protection.

Hi, thank you both for puting my mind at rest.

Ethel, at the risk of sounding like a complete computer dunce - please can you tell me how to set a restore point?

Thank you.
Click start, then run...

Type in msconfig and click ok.

Click launch system restore.

Choose create restore point.

Well I never! You learn something new every day here.

I have always done -

Start - all programmes - accessories - system tools - system restore.
me too ethel. Its much easier that way
At one time I was using this so much that I eventually went:
Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore-right click-pin to start menu. I've kept it eversince
