Thats how you know unless you remove it and test it with a multimeter- life is 5-7 years and they cost about 1.00 & 2 minutes to fit

I realise that the clock is one of the first indications of the battery running out but it is not as simple as you make it sound. I have been looking into it and have found that as soon as you change your battery, your computer is wiped so you lose everything. That is why I want to make sure that it is the battery and not anything else. It doesn't lose time overnight, only when it is on during the day - which doesn't make sense. Also my computer is only just two years old.
I chyanged my battery a week ago - it did not wipe the computer - mine is two yrs old.
