I have just installed Mozilla Thunderbird, as my Outlook Express has stoppped working.

The trouble is it displays all emails in a Chinese/Japanese/Korean type font. Meaning I have to choose "View" > "Character Encoding" > "Western (Iso-8859-1) for each message, to turn it back into English.

I've gone into "Tools" > "Options" > "Display" and made sure that the option to ensure incoming and out going messages were set to display in the Western Iso font were checked. They were.

As an experiment I unchecked the boxes for the above options, and now some of my emails are in the Western font, whilst others remain in chinese!

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Just a shot in the dark....... what happens if you set View, Character Encoding, Auto-Detect to Off, then set the character encoding to Western (ISO blah blah) one last time(!)?
