Disturbing Films

Have you ever seen a film that disturbed you (or played on your mind) after viewing it?
I know a couple of people who have said that they would never watch The Exorcist again as they found it unnerving. Ive seen The Exorcist at least a dozen times and cant fathom out why a story of religious myths (Catholic priests v possessed girl) would unnerve anyone anymore than a story of talking animals and evil witches as in the Narnia films.
Personally, I enjoy horror type films but recognise that they are fantasy. Got to say though that Hostel 3 played on my mind for a bit after watching it for the first time, though Ive seen it since but knew what the storyline was so knew what to expect.

Just curious as to what other ABers find disturbing in films.

Jaws. My dad dragged me and my brothers to see it when we were young. It frit the freakin life out of me, and left me with a fear of being in the sea. Everytime I'm in there swimming, I hear the Jaws music.

Disturbed probably not, but seriously wondered how they got the funding for some of the carp they release. Maybe they are subscribing to the Producers theory.

Another one that disturbed me, but in a different way, was Seven Pounds, starring Will Smith. It played on my mind for a good while after I watched it

i must have been an early viewer of the film alongside my parents. the film was very graphic, no one could sit on the back row which was reserved for first-aiders to await people having panic attacks! i must say that the film was very scary but neither my parents or me required any help. however i did have a bit of difficulty sleeping for a while after the movie. i own the film on DVD but haven't had the courage to watch it so far. if i did i am sure that it would not have the problems watching it that i had then!

I found The Sixth Sense rather disturbing. The ending of The Wicker Man was like a kick in the ball too.

Snap Zacs. I came here to post exactly that. Easily the most unsettling film I’ve ever seen.
I think The Exorcist is scary because of the special effects many which are not really ‘special effects’ but close to the real thing: the priests really are shivering in the cold for example. And there’s a slow buildup of menace.
I found The Changes children’s TV series from the seventies scary: watched it again recently and of course it seemed a bit less so

I have to be very careful about what I read or watch. I am fine when awake but it all comes back on my dreams with embellishments provided by my own imagination. I really admire Stephen King as a writer but cannot read his books.

My mum took me to see jaws when I was about 10, havnt seen it since.
Something to do with a shark and needing a bigger boat as far as I can recall :-)
