Start Menu Programs disappered

Does anyone know how i can recover my programs from the start menu. When i look in Programs folder my programs are gone, such as word somebody please help

Can you be more specific? For instance, if you click start are programs still listed but appear "file not found" when selected, or are they missing from the start menu? Is it just office programms that are affected - I assume you still have your browser to be able to post this? What happens if you open windows explorer, select your C drive, select tools/find/files and enter winword.exe? If files are missing you've either accidentally erased/uninstalled them, or have a malicious virus (what does your virus checker report?) or your file system is corrupted.

The programs are missing from the start menu. my virus checker reports that there are no viruses & im using windows98. And what do you mean by opening windows explorer ? But when i search for the programs such as word i found them in the start menu folder but they dont appear on the actuall start menu folder if you understood that

If they're missing from the start menu then the most likely reason is that you or someone else has uninstalled them. If they have been uninstalled then they're gone for ever. If however you have somehow just deleted their entry (their shortcut) in the start menu then the actual programs will still be on your system. If this is so then you can restore their start menu entry. Windows explorer is the program windows uses to display the files you have on your PC. If you don't know how to display these files with this program then on your desktop you should have an icon named "my computer". Double click this to fire it up. Now follow the instructions listed in my earlier post. If you can find winword.exe then Word is still on your system. Highlight it and holding down your left mouse button drag the entry onto your start button and the shortcut will be restored. Do the same for your other missing programs.
