How do I empty the 6 thousand messages in my Windows Live Mail 'Deleted Items' folder without having to scroll down and delete in batches ?

Select deleted items folder. Then on the top bar of the page Empty Folder.

On mine, using Windows Live Mail it is not that way.

Instead with the cursor over the deleted items folder you right click and it is an option in the menu that appears.

I switched to outlook Hopkirk but couldn't remember how I used to do it. You are spot on.

control a highlights all the emails, then delete
