Just recently Windows is taking about five minutes to open. It begins to start then the screen goes black for some minutes before Windows finally opens.

I haven't changed anything or added loads of photos etc.

My PC has Windows XP with Comodo Firewall and AVG anti-virus (Free version)

Any ideas, please ?

Cheers.

AVG is notorious for causing slow startup of Windows. Get rid of it and install Microsoft Security Essential (it's free).

It's an 'specialist built' pc with a 495gb hard drive (c) and 435gb back-up. Does that help ?

I was told that Microsoft Essentials anti-virus was inadequate. I've been using AVG without any problems for six months and the problem started a week ago.

All 4 of the computers in my house have MSE as their anti virus, none of them have ever been infected with anything more than tracking cookies.
