I want to delete all the messages in my trash section (email). I can do it one at a time but it will take forever. Is there a way to delete all of them at once? I have tried right clicking hoping there would be an instruction there somewhere but no luck. Can anyone help?

If you're using a web-based email system there should be a 'select all' or 'check all' box somewhere on the page. if you are in the summary view of the trash then there should be a tick box next to each message and a box above all of them which selects all or none of the messages, and with all selected you should be able to choosethe delete action
I have an icon which lets me empty the whole bin at once.

for my emails at work, I highlight the first one, then hold down the shift key and click on the bottom one and they all highlight, then just press delete. See if that works for you?

Thanks for answering bibblebub. There are over a thousand and I cannot see any way of deleting them all in one go. I know there must be a way, but I am blowed if I can see it.
Are you doing this online or using an email client (i.e. a program that you have installed on your computer)? If online then which email site and, if a client, which program?
If you're using a web-based email system there should be a 'select all' or 'check all' box somewhere on the page.

If you're using a proper email client (such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc) then the same technique that you can use for selecting files in Windows Explorer will work there. i.e. to highlight lots of individual files/messages, hold the Ctrl key down while clicking on each of them. To highlight a block of files/messages, click on the first one and then hold down the shift key while licking on the last one.

So, assuming that you're using an email client, click on the first message and then hold down the shift key while clicking on the last one. That will highlight all of the messages. Right-click on any one of them and select 'delete'.

Alternatively, click on one message and then go to Edit>Select All to highlight the whole list.

I can delete mine by clicking in the box at the left hand side of the bar above the list of emails next to the 'from'. This will highlight all the emails on that page I think. You may need to do it page by page unless someone else knows a short-cut.

Yay!! I did it. Thanks everyone - that technique worked beautifully and I now have an empty file. What would I do without you all.?
