SLOW SLOW Computer is so SLOW

Can you help please we have Microsoft XP system which has been running fine up until now but at this moment it is running really slowly ,just on normal usage,is there anything I can try ,I would be very grateful for your input .

try "cc cleaner"free clean out all the junk then run a antivirus prog and anti malware prog

Make / model / browser / size of memory fitted ? Nowadays I wouldn't run Windows XP SP3 with less than 2 Gb of memory.
If your problem is confined to the Answerbank site, the only way round this seems to be to reboot. There is a real issue with one of more of the advertiser links on this site which causes browsers to crawl.
Otherwise, if you haven't used the computer for a few days there are a lot of Microsoft updates in the June patch set and your PC will run slow while these come down.

After you run - disk cleanup - located under – Accessories then system tools then disk clean up. Once that is done, go back to system tools and choose disk defragmenter

MBAM (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) is free and once installed and updated, do a full scan and fix anything it finds and reboot.

Just be warned that a full scan can easily take a couple hours.

Next, check avaialble hard drive space. Open "My Computer" and check drive C: and if this is full delete stuff so Windows can breathe.

Lastly, how much RAM? When I refurbish machines I add 1GB RAM minimum but more if possible. Anything under 1GB can give you a slow machine and 512MB is asking for trouble.
