WHICH NETBOOK?

I need to change my Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook...
I have spoken to their Support and have been told that one upgrade the memory in it.from 1GB to 2GB.
Have seen that one can do this with the Samsung NC110-A03UK Intel Atom (N570) 1GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drive 10.1 inch Netbook:

My Dell is running so slow and the touchpad has always been erratic( seen on forums that this seems to be a problem a few people have had).
Would more memory have made it run faster or is it cos it is XP and about 4 years old?I would like to add that it is not used a great deal ,only for when on holidays.

Advice please.

Difficult to tell. XP should run perfectly well with 1GB RAM, though 2GB wouldn't hurt! It may simply be that it could with a format of its hard disk and reinstallation of the OS. HOWEVER, before you attempt that, make sure that you have copies of all the software you need to install first. Also, some netbooks are proprietary, so you might find it difficult to rebuild it correctly if you don't have all of the hardware drivers to hand.

Since you don't use it much, have you considered something like an iPad?

Had a feeling you would be first to answer as you seem to be well up in computer tech.
Yes,have thought about an iPad but it has to be hand-held,so not really comfortable with that.

Did try to have the netbook took back to factory state but could not be done,have a friend who is quite good with these things ..but...must add ...as as good as you are..however he could not do it so gave it a good clean out for me,got rid of stuff no longer need etc...but still sooooo slooow!!!!

And the touchpad...well dreadful and the curser all over the place..have tried the setting but to no avail.As I said before ,seen other people complaining about that too.
I have to use a wireless mouse but this can be a pain when using the netbook on the plane etc.

Slightly confused by that, as iPads and netbooks are approximately the same size and can both be held in the hand...

Did your friend also run malwarebytes on it?

What, if any, anti-malware software is it running?

For the record, uninstalling software which is no longer required will have no effect whatsoever on the speed of the machine unless that software is set to start up when the machine starts. It will, obviously, free up space on the hard disk...

I see what you mean about hand-held..I meant that a netbook can be used on a table top or on one`s lap where as an iPad you can`t,although I have seen some sort of stand with keyboard one can use with it.
Have Norton Anti-Virus but my friend put in some sort of Spyware,can`t tell you off-hand which..he told me to run it once a week..that that should help speed it up but I have not noticed any difference.
Would it be a good idea to get rid?

Ah. Well, unless it's a fairly recent version (as in the last year or so), that's almost certainly why it's running so slowly.

I'd advise you to (try to!) get rid of that - you'll need to get the Norton Removal Tool, though: http://www.google.co....q=Norton+Removal+tool

Then, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971606

Unless that's malwarebytes, get rid of that too and run malwarebytes once a week: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

I have Norton 2011..so you suggest I get rid and have Microsoft Security Essentials to replace it..or is that OK being a fairly recent one.
Also to use Malwarebytes as a Spyware??
I notice on the bottom of this window,desktop pc,a little eye with a red circle with a line through it crossways....what is this??
