Not so silly IMO.
No expert but I'd suspect it can continue to run on the mains. The only problem would be if the battery failed in such a way as to affect the computer.

Thank you.
Is it better to remove the battery or just leave it? |
|
As long as its not the battery embeded in the motherboard, which if its at the end of its life will stop your computer working, but that one's readily available for about £3-4 and can be purchased everywhere you normally buy batteries, i.e tesco/morrisons/wh smith.

I have an Inspiron as well and needed to replace my battery last year. I looked for one on Amazon rather than Dell's own site. Most of them were around the £75 mark, but one was £15. Sounds too good to be true, but I bought it anyway. It's fine, keeps its charge for 3 hours. Looks like they've gone up a little, but they're still there. You'd need to make sure it's suitable for your particular machine.

If it's warning you then it's the main battery.
Also if the little battery inside fails it does not stop the laptop working, it will just cause it not to retain things like the correct time if you unplug it from the power. |

^ Make for fun with everything dated as 01/01/1970 though, but agree
