I have an inherited Excel spreadsheet and the sum function has stopped working in one particular area. If I do the sum [ =SUM(AF6:AF255) ] then it returns the correct answer, however if I add a figue in cell AF7 for example, the sum figure at the top does not change.
I am getting a small green corner error indicator on the cell; this states that the cell is not locked and contains a formula so it may want to be protected to avoid any c hnages inadvertently...
Interestignly, if I copy and paste special a blank cell from another workbook, it will not allow me to as it is treating the area I want to paste to as an object?
I'm saying, if AF7 had a figure in, the total at that time would be correct...but if I put a figure in afterwards, the figure does not chnaged automatically so it cannot be used as a working summary at the top.
Is the sheet set to either manual recalculation or automatic except tables in the option? (if you're using column AF I can see why it might be set to manual as it's obviously a large sheet)
You can force a recalculate with CTRL + ALT + F9 or see if it is set to manual calculate and set it to automatic (although this may slow things down if it's a really large sheep)
