A program is a little vague as there is no standard, but generally Select advanced or custom when given the option during install and then when offered the install path change the driver letter at the beginning from C to whatever the drive letter for the other drive is.

Don't install programs onto a USB drive though, only internal drives.
I'm no expert so you will probably get better answers. When you install a programme is usually asks you where you want to put it. Normally the "C" drive is pre-selected. If it's possible I would assume you just select another drive.
There you go, you've already got a better answer.

I am sorry to be so vague about this but below I had a thread going and AlBags has given me some splendid advice which I have followed but I find nothing seem to work, I had an email from the vendors telling me I should try installing the programme onto another HD, but I have no clue how to, nor do I see an option for another drive
What is the actual (original) problem? - what made you email the manufacturer in the first place?

I wanted to do a Movie DVD for friends sid but when I opened the (purchased programme) to start it asks me to buy it?
so a series of emails have gone between me and Anvsoft and still I can't use it, I have my reg key, D.O.P everything!
"another HD, but I have no clue how to, nor do I see an option for another drive"
Well, in that case the chances are that you don't have another drive. You can easily check by double clicking Computer and seeing what drives are shown there.
So you say you purchased a program then it asks you to buy it. What sort of message is this, during install? Do you get a chance to enter your key?

Was this a boxed product with a CD/DVD?

But to be honest I dont see what difference it is going to make installing it on another hard disk (lets face it you may not HAVE another hard disk so that is hardly a solution).

Windows comes with a free Movie Maker product and I believe you can make DVDs from that
You can, I have.

rojash, I just have to one, just checked

I suspect it starts to ask you to buy it because at this point it requires proof in the form of the registration key.

I know some software isn't sophisticated enough to allow you to choose a location, but these days one expects the option to be there.

If the installation process won't let you choose a drive, and the thing won't install on the defaults (and if you don't have another PC to try it on, then my suggestion would be to ask for a refund on the basis that it fails to install and so is unfit for purpose.
Ummm you coud buy and plug in an external hard drive. But unless you were thinking of getting one anyway, I'd not bother in your shoes.

I purchased in Nov.2010, worked fine until now, I have shown them my reg key, they are in USA I think, and not much help
Lost me now. You are still trying to install, yet it has worked fine until now?
Question Author
yes, they are trying to blame Windows updates for it
and I have an external HD but the programme is not giving me an option to enter the key any longer, I think I will give up with £35 wasted :-(
