A driver infront of me had signalled to turn right, he then proceeded to move over to the right hand side of the road.
There was plenty of room for me to continue straight on. As i carried on straigt, the driver infront turned sharpy to the left, coming across my path and unfortunately i hit into the side of his car. The driver must have accidently signalled the wrong way and took a wide birth to enter a narrow street entrance but i have a feeling he is going to claim otherwise.
Very little damage was sustained on his vehicle. however my car got a damaged wing, bumper and headlight that will cost several thousand pounds!
Anyone have any ideas as who will be liable for this?

if very little damage was made on his vehicle, he may not be concerned about , involving insurance........ this happened to me two years ago ..... my car was not damaged, the other drivers car was slightly damaged , i evaded contact with him , or his insures , finally they contacted my insurers after 7 months... i told my insurers , "i was not the driver on the day of the accident " , hence my policy didnt cover this accident...... the police never recieved a report of the accident either......... so i was basically in the clear , make sure , this doesnt happen to . you , "a driver denying he was behind the wheel " , report the accident to the police , they wont be very helpful, but as a citizen you are entitled to it,,, even though no one was injured... say to the police u think the other driver was uninsured... then they will give u the appropiate forms to fill in , but you will have to show them documentation regarding your car and your driving licence.......

The best thing to do is inform your insurance as INFORMATION ONLY AT THIS STAGE not a claim that this is what has happened this means that if the third party's insurance do contact yours you have took action first which goes in your favour. also if you say your car is that badly damage you will need to go through the insurance for the repairs ( i work for a bodyshop).
Donna - nobody ever HAS to claim through their insurance to repair their own vehicle. They can choose to pay for the repairs themselves.
They can take the car where they want even if going through insurance or not but if car repairs will cost several thousand as he says he may as well go through the insurance and just pay the xs
Sounds to me like you are at fault but maybe not 100%. Have you details of any witnesses? These are always the best thing to establish liability. Your word against his is usually not good odds but you (I think) would stand a good chance at a split liability.

Check your policy to see whether you have Legal Expenses Insurance and speak with a Solicitor. If you have Legal Expenses your insurance company will put you in touch with one.

Good luck
