SP2 is causing me massive problems. I can't find it in Add/Remove Programs but it is installed. I can't find it when I look in programs on Local Disk. Has anyone got any suggestions please? You may say it's not installed if it doesn't appear in any of the above but I know it's there. Thanks.

make sure the "show updates" box in add remove programs window is checked.
There's an easy way to be sure if service pack 2 is installed. Prior to service pack 2, when Windows first started, it would show the XP logo and the words "Windows XP Home" or "Windows XP Professional", as appropriate. After service pack 2, the "Home" or "Professional" is not displayed.
Belarc advisor is a nice little free program that will tell you all you need to know about whats on your system.
