Question on Guitar scales etc.

If i do say i MAJOR scale or arpeggio on a guitar or minor (or any type of scale!) does the pattern STAY the same no matter what fret i am on IF i am playing a major scale (or any)???

If i'm understanding you correctly then yes it does. The structure of a scale eg - Tone-Tone-Semitone-Tone-Tone-Tone-Semitone in the case of a major scale can be moved up and down the neck-but remember to include the open string as a note otherwise it wont work.Eg (Emaj) E-F#-G#-A-B-C#-D#-E. This can be played tab-wise as (String 6(fatest))0-2-4(String 5)0-2-4(String 4)1-2. If you wanted to play a Gmaj scale then the whole pattern is moved up to start on G so it would go (String 6)3-5-7(S5)3-5-7(S4)4-5. Arpeggios are the follow the same rules - as long as the shape is only moved up and down, not across. Hope this helps - tried me best to explain it!

Yeah Carlos has hit the nail on the head there.....try learning the minor pentatnoic scale to solo over rock and blues...it will sound a lot better than major scales unless you play mostly C&W.
