Nice Towels

A sensible question for once ...

I recently had an excellent few days away in a smart hotel - and amongst the manifold pleasures were the lovely fluffy towels - which managed the good trick of feeling soft and cuddly, but also being properly absorbent - so often the two seem incompatible.

My towels at home now feel a bit 'thin and scratchy' by comparison - which is odd because this time last month they felt fine :+(

I'm going to buy some new ones, but am so far out of my comfort zone on the 'towel buying expertise' front that it is barely visible with a telescope.

I'm assuming 100% cotton - but beyond that I'm at a loss - is there any fancy stuff like 'thread count' or 'fluffy quotient' to look for?

So - any handy tips and recommendations for good brands/retailers please?

The Jasper Conran range at Debenhams is nice. Our towels are still very fluffy and absorbent.

And never use fabric conditioner on your towels.

The House of Fraser hotel collection is awesome, otherwise John Lewis ticks all my boxes.

As BM says never use fabric conditioner on them?

I don't use fab cond on anything except sheets and bedding - even then only if I remember.

Is that Sarsons best, NoM, or Balsamic?

I also echo John Lewis and Debenhams, though I also got some lovely ones from Next last year too.
You could have just pinched them from the hotel though( joking!)

The HoF idea is a good one - they have a new store opening soon near(ish) to me.

Poppycock!.....As you were shouting and swearing at the rain I was getting my towels beautifully dry and fluffy in the tumble dryer.....
You wash your towels....bring half down the hill and I'll convince you to be sensible and buy a tumble dryer...... :-)
