Appalling remark from Bristow, but typical of his type I suppose.

It is ignorant, Mikey, and the kind of thing said by someone who hasn't been a victim of abuse. Any abuse, sexual, emotional, mental....always has an element of fear and shame attached. That's why victims stay quiet but when someone else speaks up they affirm it...not jumping on the bandwagon as people on here often accuse them of.

Thanks Minty....I shall never be rude about Piers Morgan again !

( well....can't promise, but I will try ! )
:0) x
As has been pointed out, Mr Bristow has confused holding forth in the pub to a crowd of admirers, and Twitter which is read by billions of people.

Hopefully he now understands the difference, and has added that to the long list of things on which he requires education.
// not jumping on the bandwagon as people on here often accuse them of.//

well about 50% of the savil allegations arent proceeded with as they are obviously false - but there money is involved

altho if Crewe really are saying they knew about it and did nothing
then they are facing a huge bill

and yes umm is quite right
it is close family and either way ( fess up now or suppress it ) it causes long term severe damage to the family unit

Andy....I thought the apology was a bit mealy-mouthed to be honest, but I suppose we must be grateful for what we can get.

And I agree about Bristow's education process, although I don't really share your optimism somehow. I think the threat to his future income was as effective as any public opprobrium.
Andy > Hopefully he now understands the difference, and has added that to the long list of things on which he requires education.

Yes, he cannot undo what he has said but he has apologised.

I haven't seen the full interview he gave this morning but I did hear the outraged women. Bristow, having given an apology, was still challenged by her stating that if he really meant it he would give to her charity. Why should he? He has had the decency to give an interview, apologised and that should be the end of it.

Why do some people apply their own sliding scales of levels of sincerity when apologies are issued as if to continue the situation?

I though the woman's comment of 'blood on his hands' was petulant, disproportionate and, in itself, worthy of an apology.
AG - I have just watched the interview.

It is clear that Mr Bristow is used to being 'all transmit and no receive' in his dialogue with people, that is clear from the way he talked over Piers Morgan and sidestepped the Twitter quotes with some furious back-peddling about 'children now, not thirty years on ...'.

Mr Bristow does not appear to be a particularly articulate or intelligent individual, and I think he is genuinely baffled that his ignorant and unreconstructed opinions have met with such hostility.

With regard to the woman demanding money for her charity, that was obviously not pertinent or appropriate, and her mention of him having 'blood on his hands' was hysterical nonsense.

Mr Bristow is paying a price for his actions, and that is the loss of his punditry position with Sky - I doubt he will understand why that has happened.

The wider tragedy is that it is Neanderthal attitudes to 'manhood' such as are espoused by Mr Bristow that has allowed abuse suffered by the men who have recently come forward to flourish undetected.

Hopefully people with views like Mr Bristow are an increasing minority, and eventually will cease to exist altogether
There are many who should have lost their jobs, before Bristow lost his with Sky.

What's happened to free speech?
Andy - no disagreement from me there.

I just found the woman's response irritating and provocative. To label Bristow as 'the most offensive person to have breathed oxygen' was a further example of hysterical nonsense.

Bristow has rightly been taken to task but some people take delight in finding further nails to hammer in his coffin.

Regarding such views, I don't share your optimism. There will be plenty of people with entrenched attitudes like Bristow's.

One thing is for sure, Bristow's Twitter account will be scrutinised more closely.
What's happened to free speech?

which would you prefer, an employee's right to free speech or an employer's right to sack an employee who embarrasses them in public?

(There's no right answer to that one, it's just a matter of personal preference.)
Free speech means being free to say whatever you like. And then, if what you say makes you look like a total twit, then you have freedom to suffer the consequences. Such as losing jobs.
AOG - //There are many who should have lost their jobs, before Bristow lost his with Sky.

What's happened to free speech? //

Do you know of any other Sky employees who have spoken as Mr Bristow has? If so, send a list to Sky, I am sure they will be treated in a similar fashion.

As for 'free speech' - Mr Bristow does indeed have free speech, and Sky has the freedom not to employ someone with his odious ill-informed views.

Free speech comes with responsibility - and you know that as well as I do.
Aog, "free speech" doesn't mean "free of responsibility". He can say what he likes- and he has, but making his employers look bad will affect his work, offending people will cause hostility... there are consequences...Obviously.
Cross-posted...
Seeing Bristow this morning reminded me of the late great Sid Waddell:-

"He looked as happy as a penguin in a microwave"!!

Priceless!

AOG...daft comment at 10:59.

Bristow needs to know the difference between "free speech" and being ignorant and offensive. But that free speech you so readily support, also goes the other way.

Bristow now know, ( hopefully) how it works. It appears to have hit his wallet, which is something that he will understand.
Perhaps those appearances in the company of Jim Bowen as a special guest didn't help Eric who may have taken his comments too literally:-

"You can't beat a bit of bully" :o(
In today's Mail,Bristow has been sacked by Sky Sports and Newcastle United have dropped him from a forthcoming event.
AG - //Perhaps those appearances in the company of Jim Bowen as a special guest didn't help Eric who may have taken his comments too literally:-

Wonderful!

I'm going to file that in my 'I wish I'd posted that!' file.
