Perhaps they think that any female members applying , will be a bit 'rough'

I'll get ma coat
Yep, go and have your tee...
When I visited the revered Bombay Yacht Club twenty odd years ago the Indian guy who I was with took great delight in pointing out a sign in the bar, dating back to the days of the Raj, which read, "No Indians or dogs".
When I said, "Good grief, Darius! What on earth did they have against dogs?" I got the answer, "B*ggered if I know Mike!"
When it comes to equality these stuffy golf clubs have a fairway to go.
They need to iron out some of their outdated rules
Genting Highlands outside Kuala Lumpur had one, "No Amahs or Durians beyond this point"
After all the fuss at St Andrews, men had their Associate Membership rights rescinded years ago at this club - and the women haven't even had to hold a vote to re-allow their membership. Perhaps Nicola Sturgeon should raise the matter in the Scottish Parliament!

"It seems that misogyny still rules some golf courses"

As does misandry, and to a greater degree.

When this all blew up 3 years ago R&A chief Peter Dawson was oft quoted that "there are about 3,000 courses in Britain and around one per cent are single-sex."

And yet the vast majority of articles covering the issue at that time neglected the next line of the quote - "Of that one per cent, there are more women-only clubs than men-only."

By all means deprive single gender clubs from hosting major events but everybody needs to stop spinning this debate as 'chauvinistic males' issue.
I agree ABE, the same applies to the States, women's clubs in Chicago and SF to begin with - truly women only.....and then, outside golf, look at some of the wimmen only clubs in London.
Women and Golf don't mix, Just ask Tiger Woods !
Can I qualify something here - as to golf (and probably a lot more), I have no issue with male and female clubs only, on the proviso visitors are allowed.....and from that if Muirfield wants to accept the Brit Ladies Open, then they should - though that may necessitate some changing room adaptions or compromise..., the same true for other largely male or male-only clubs. By the way, Muirfield accepts female visitors (allowing for handicap).
Open is at Troon this year, still a men only club I believe.
they are due to vote on it, grumpy......the thing is that they have to invest if they choose to take women, the facilities male oriented, i.e. in changing rooms (and for some courses, tees).
Thanks for that DTC.Presumably if they vote to exclude women members they will also lose the Open.
(after the Open, naturally).......I still come back on the position of the St Reg's club, given its physical proximity to the R&A, less than 100 yards from front door to front door. That is sheer hypocrisy on part of the fairer sex golfing members and they should need to open their doors too.
A load of old codgers, stuck in the dark ages.
as is the St Regulus Club in St A and a host of others in Scotland, anne....

Aberdeen Ladies, Carnoustie Ladies, Ladies Panmure Monifieth, St Rule St Andrews, St Regulus St Andrews and Troon Ladies all have their own clubhouses but play 3rd party courses, the majority of which are public courses.

Lundin Ladies and Machrihanish Ladies manage both clubhouses and courses.

Clean up their act and also so should the men but less of the blatant hypocrisy.
Don't lecture me DC.
*** DT.
